Wanted: Dead Media Kit
The 'Wanted: Dead Media Kit' was designed and produced by Cook and Becker for Swiss publisher 110 Industries for the cult action game Wanted: Dead. Only a few hundred of these exclusive kits were made.
The kit is styled as a “Dauer Industries Welcome Kit,” taken straight from the fictional universe in which the game is set. Dauer Industries is an evil business conglomerate, inspired by the corporate giants of the 1990s, and is involved in everything from defense contracting to running TV networks and music labels. Imagine Robocop's Omni Consumer Products, but reimagined through a 1990s lens.
The kit is packed with items that reflect Dauer’s wide-ranging influence. Inside, you'll find a futuristic grenade (a resin statue), a real cookbook from Dauer TV's most popular show "Vivienne's Late Night Chow", and two 7" vinyl singles featuring music by Stefani Niemandsverdriet, Dauer’s top music star. In the game, Stefani is portrayed by Stefanie Joosten, who you might recognize as Quiet from Metal Gear Solid V.
From a visual design perspective, the 1990s were a wild era, and the kit captures this. On one hand, the decade saw the dawn of cutting-edge graphic design from collectives like The Designers Republic, which foreshadowed the computer graphic aesthetic to follow in the new century. On the other hand, much of mainstream visual design still retained strong 1970s and 1980s influences. We combined all of that in this media kit, styled as a "Dauer Industries Welcome Kit for New Employees".
If you've tried the Wanted: Dead game (and we recommend you do), you'll find it reminiscent of games like Deadly Premonition, weird and messy but wonderful throwbacks to the PlayStation 2 era. This media kit is still one of the favorite designs of the Cook and Becker team!
The media kit contains:
- A beautifully styled gift box
- A cyberpunk-style grenade statue
- Two 7" vinyl singles featuring Stefanie Joosten on vocals
- A Dauer Industries cookbook with nearly 40 recipes
- A media CD
- An access key that allows you to download the Wanted: Dead press assets.
