Winter can be a magical time, and in 2018 we launched two artworks by artist Kilian Eng that captured the season perfectly with crisp new prints featuring mysterious scenes in snowy forests. These personal artworks that were launched in November are The Rider and Cursed Forest.
We asked Kilian about these two new prints and he had this to say:
"Cursed Forest shows a lonely knight travelling through a slowly decaying, mysteriously cursed forest", says Eng about this artwork. "When I was working on the piece, in my mind I expanded the idea about this one image to a whole story about a kingdom under a spell that has made everything become quiet and frozen in time."
He added: "The idea behind The Rider was that the character riding the horse is crossing a bridge between two worlds. Perhaps between life and death. If you look very closely, you can see a bright imprint of the rider on the dark side of the bridge on the left. Like he has passed over and turned into a ghost or spirit maybe. There is also a ghost or spirit standing in front of the gate to the city. I'm not sure if that is the same character or another figure waiting for him on the other side. I always try to allow for multiple interpretations of my work".
Each illustration showing stunning detail, Kilian delivers us two new stunning, mysterious worlds.
These works both sold out in a matter of days.
