Vacancy: Project Manager/ Producer
MAY 2021. Cook and Becker is a Dutch design studio, publisher and retailer of premium video game merchandise such as art prints, coffee table books, and video game collector's editions. The company operates worldwide, sells mainly through its own webstore and via partnerships with foreign publishers and distributors.
Cook and Becker is looking for a Project Manager/Producer to help make its books. Our video game art books are characterized by high quality materials and finishes, very attractive visuals, rigorous research and well-written texts. Our titles are in English, and some are released in other languages as well, sometimes in co-editions with other publishers. Our new Project Manager/ Producer feels like a fish in water in this environment.
About the position
As a Project Manager/Producer you will manage one or more projects. A project does not only consist of making the book, it also includes the luxury case for the book and all accessories that go with it. All designs are made by Cook and Becker, we source our own suppliers, and manage the whole production ourselves. That means a lot of things have to be coordinated to get a book finished on time. You set and monitor schedules and deadlines, the budget, the quality, and all the steps in the process of the project.
Every Cook and Becker book is different: a unique design, special accessories, and you work with different international game companies. We've already made books with Guerrilla Games, SEGA, Vlambeer, Square Enix, Wargaming, and we're currently working with Bandai Namco on a Pac-Man book.
Who we are looking for
For this position we are looking for someone who has experience managing and producing complex book productions, merchandise and accessories. In addition to that we are looking for an organizer and planner for who keeping an overview comes naturally. You are used to meeting deadlines. And all that while keeping a close eye on the budgets. We are looking for someone who thinks in solutions, not in problems.
You see books as your core business, and you recognize the quality of a book as a product. You ask the right questions, understand the technical process of book making: design, production, editing, lithography. In short, book production has no secrets for you.
During the project you talk to partners and suppliers all over the world. It is therefore important that you can communicate clearly with remote people (via e-mail), at the right level, even about the smallest details. You also bring creative input in the realization of accessories and merchandise. You are curious and you regularly inspire your team with products and production opportunities.
About you

• You are strong communicator, and write and speak good to excellent English
• You like to get things done, and are motivated to keep track of time and budget
• You have an eye for the big picture, but also for detail
• You are empathetic
• You can deal with stress
• You are handy with computers. Working with cloud services like Google Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets etc. is familiar to you
• You can keep a good overview and you are eager to learn
• Affinity with video games and luxury products is a plus
About us
• A job for 32-40 hours per week within a unique company that makes and sells special products to enthusiasts and collectors in an international environment
• Open, enthusiastic 'can do' team spirit
• An environment where your creative ideas become reality
• You will be working with major international game studios and artists
• Salary depends on age and especially experience, based on the CAO ‘Publishing Company’.
Our strength is based on our ability to work together. It stimulates lively discussions, inspires creative thought and helps us come up with better products for our customers. We are looking for someone who thrives in this environment and gets inspired by delivering high quality, high value books.
